The annual elections to the Student Council give children a taste of leadership, suffrage and managerial skills. The council body, with the Head Girl at the helm of affairs and House Captain and Prefects to assist, help students to get prepared to take their rightful place as citizens of the country.

 

Criteria for the Student Council Election

 

  • Stuents contesting for the elections- must be a student with dynamic personality, regular and punctual in his/her work, with a good moral character.
  • Must have a zeal and devotion for school values and ideologies.
  • Must be popular and able to talk to students of all ages.
  • Must have a sound academic record, keen interest in co-cirricular activities along with proven sportsmanship.
  • Must be aware of the vision and mission of the school. Have tremendous love and respect for the teachers, administrative staff and management.
  • Must be disciplined enough to motivate others to follow the path of virtue and venture.
  • Set a good example – keep an open mind. Convey regards to all.

 

Head Boy/Girl-

 

  • Must be outspoken, skilled orator

 

Asst/HB/HG-

 

  • Must be accurate at keeping records of meetings and student activities.

 

Barriers to student involvement:-

  • Lack of time
  • Fear that their English is not good enough.
  • Lack of confidence.
  • Not clear about their role.
  • Uncertain about the purpose.
  • Cynical about their own ideas.

 

 

Student council is responsible for

 

  • Parking, co-ordination and discipline during any program…
  • Anchor – program.
  • Be a part of editorial team for kabir kalam
  • Assist class teachers to maintain discipline while


      a. Moving for assembly
      b. Dispersal
      c. Any other event

 

  • Focus on solution to students problems and not unnecessary magnify them.
  • Uniform, nails, punctuality
  • Help to maintain the decorm

 

      a. Wish /greet teachers and elders.
      b. Speak in English within the premises.
      c. Respect the juniors as well as seniors.
      d. Solve petty problems amongst peers.

 

The role or purpose of the student council

 

  • To plan special programs/events/projects
  • To give students body a ‘voice and space’
  • To socialize with other students
  • To gain experience as having opportunities to practice English, to read speak in a group, learn new skills.
  • Help to influence decisions about policies that will affect him
  • Will learn to operate a program.
  • An opportunity to meet new people
  • Students bring new ideas to develop skills, increases the chance of learning
  • Must motivate others
