Kabir Kala 2010

About the Art Mela

We are pleased to introduce ourselves, St Kabir School (Vadodara), as a leading English Medium School affiliated to the Gujarat Board of Secondary Education. We are soon entering our 20th year of operations and have made a mark in the fields of academics, sports (at the local, district & national levels), performing arts & aesthetic arts. We have been active participants at the World’s longest canvas (organized by the Vadodara Marathon initiative), and we ranked 32nd at the Joy of Giving Week contest (out of 1600 schools).

Our philosophy has always encouraged and ensured that activities related to expressions through art, music and dance be an integral component of the school curriculum.

Our children have consistently brought in accolades for excellence in these co-curricular activities on a competitive level as well.

A special outcome of this integration is the forthcoming Art Mela, scheduled to be held over 6th & 7th February 2010. This event will include the participation of every child of the school from Nursery till Std 12 (except the Board years), amounting to roughly 1500 students!

The School Focus

Our focus is to ensure that each child is exposed to and learns 3 forms of art / craft (the details of the art works of each group of students is given below). The media being used for the creative pursuits and outcomes include glass, wood, M-seal, paper, cloth, all kinds of paints, wire-works, thread, cone-work, sticks, paints of all forms, acrylic, beads, sequins, glitters and other such haberdashery items, to name a few. The best outcomes of this workshop will be put up for exhibition cum sale at the Art Mela – which will be open to public for 2.5 days (tentatively over 5th -7th February).

The Exhibition cum demo focus

We also propose to have an exclusive ‘live’ aspect to the Mela – with artisans present on site, giving demos and selling their works of art. We hope to have with us some members of the Fine Arts Faculty of Baroda, village craftsmen and local talent. Additionally, we shall be offering stalls to members who can portray and sell their own works of art, food stalls, art-kit stalls, workshop rooms for learn-by-doing.
