2nd Oct '09 - Gandhi Jayanti

At the peaceful, quiet and cool break of dawn on Gandhi Jayanti (also Lal Bahadur Shastri's birth anniversary), Vadodara city came alive to pitch in for making the World's Longest canvas in history. The current record which stands at 2.2 kms within a time limit of 6 hours - was shaken by 6,130 school students of Vadodara - when in a record time of 2 hrs (7.30 to 9.30am), they completed the a canvas measuring 4.33 kms in length.  This endeavour by the organisers of the upcoming Vadodara Marathon was mammoth and a moment in History for all present -s students, teachers, parents, organisers, sponsors, guests.

Located in stalls R 4/5 were the 60 students of St Kabir School-Vadodara, who worked in perfect unison with their own team members as well as helping the schools brought in by NGOs across the aisle - sharing colours and sponge.  Each group of 5 students painted a patch of 10 feet depicting the themes of - Traffic 2020, My Dream City, Traffic Jam Problems, Public Utility Vehicles, Solutions for safety in emergency. No part of the canvas could be left blank / white and each school had to paint their school name at the bottom of the panel.  They used acrylic colours, with brush, sponge, fingers, cloth and had most of the painting outlined and ready by 9.15 am. Amidst their painting, they would joke, cheer, pose for photos and clap every time they heard the sound of RJ Kshitij booming across the ground.  60 students in a group of 6130 may seem minuscule - But as they say - EVERY DROP IN THE OCEAN COUNTS!
